February: Urban Vintage

A little while ago at an antique store I came across a truly amazing discovery: A VINTAGE PETTICOAT!!! Of course, I just had to buy it, and now it is my most prized possession. Here is how I rock the petticoat

Shirt: I like to tuck in a shirt to the petticoat to accentuate my waist, the skinniest part of my body. Keep the shirt simple, like a black or neutral v-neck. That way the petticoat gets all the attention!

Bottoms: I wear tights or jeggings (jean leggings :P) underneath the skirt. I like to use the tights as an excuse to add a  color; it gives the outfit a quirky appeal and acts as an eye-catcher. I would wear my burgundy tights.

Accessories: I would  pile on pearls, my new pocket-watch necklace, and add some funky modern rings or bracelets. TREND ALERT: colorful finger nails! Cobalt blue, bright red, emerald green, yellow, etc. They add a pop of color to any outfit and will definitely give you look a personality of it's own!

Shoes: I think that simple and comfy shoes are the way to go when you have such a fancy skirt. I would wear my burlap TOMS (of course) or a pair of ballet flats.

Hair: Twist hair into a bun at the top of your head, then add some sparkly or pearl-y (?) hair clips and bobby pins. They say, "Look how cute the hair I am holding looks!".

Here's how my look turned out! :

*not even wearing shoes in the picture...oops!

January: Spotlight-Josef Rodriguez

I have decided that every month (it may turn into twice a month) I will showcase some fashionistas and fashionistos of my community! This month the spotlight is on Josef Rodriguez.
Joey is an eigth grader at Arizona School for the Performing Arts. He is a guitarist in an aspiring indie/rock band called No Name and he is a fantastic trombone player. He is also very stylish and I asked him to create a look for me to showcase on the blog for this month, and he was extremely happy to share his style with you guys!
     Here's his look:

Joey calls his look: Intellectual Surfer Punk. I really love how this look feels relaxed (the loose shirt, jeans, beany) ,but at the same time fancy enough for school or going around town. Thanks for the look, Joey!

January: School Look

Hello readers! :) Lately people have been saying that I dress fancy everyday, which is true for most of the week, and have asked me to show a comfortable and casual school look on the blog. So here is what I see as being a cute and casual for school:

What to wear: I would wear solid colored jacket with a fun shirt underneath it. For instance, I have paired together a red corduroy jacket and a floral thermal. Not only will you stay warm, but your outfit will be noticed because of the bright solid jacket and the interesting shirt underneath it. For the bottoms I would suggest comfortable jeans. Depending on what color the shirts are, the jeans can be a dark or light wash :For instance: A bright shirt would stand out with darker jeans, but a darker and warmer shirt would stand out against light jeans. For shoes I would say cute and short high heels :) , but you could also wear comfortable slip-ons like TOMS.

Hair: I would put my hair up in a messy bun on the top of my head. This says, "I just woke up, but still look awesome."
TIP: Put the bun on the side of you head for a funky style!

Make-up: For school I always like to go neutral, but with a little pop of color in the eyes. So I would do glossy lips, a silvery-gray lid, and a fun and rich color lining the bottom of the lid. Purple's look good with blue and green eyes, pink's look good with brown eyes, but honestly you could do any color and still rock it.

January: the pencil skirt.

At a recent trip to good ol' Goodwill, I stumbled upon a 3 dollar bright pink pencil skirt. I was instantly in love.

How to wear it:

Shirt:When wearing a bright article of clothing, you have to balance out the other colors of your outfit. So I chose to pair this skirt with a fun, but not to bright leopard print shirt. It also helped that the shirt was a little roomie and flowy because it was a contrast to the tightness of the skirt.

Accessories: I piled on the pearls, a showy gold necklae, and a statement turquoise beaded necklace. For shoes I wore red pumps. In my rule book, it is okay to wear a bright skirt and bright shoes becaue my legs are so long, but if you aren't comfortable with so much color just switch out bright shoes with black or white shoes (I would wear my saddle Oxfords :P).

Hair: Slight curls/waves look glamourous without up-staging the outfit. Brush them out for sweet volume!

Make-up: With an outfit so bold and bright, the make-up should be a little less dramatic. I lined the bottom lashes with some light gray shadow and did the lids in a soft pink. Next, I added a lot of black mascara for that Hollywood-vintage-glam. Then, I brushed some light pinky-rosy blush along my cheek bones. Also, I kept the lips neutral, but added some shiny gloss.

Here's how it turned out!

The last day of 2010!

Hello there bloggers! Well tomorrow is the last day of 2010 and as we wrap-up 2010 what will you be doing? Sleeping? Watching the Ball drop by yourself? BORING!
First think about this- This day will never happen again. Never, ever, ever.  Of course this applies to everyday of the year, but New Years Eve is special! So go ahead, by the new dress that you have wanted for so long. Put an oversized bow in your hair. Throw a inpromptu party with some of your closest friends. Wear those super high heels, no matter if you tower over everyone. Here's how to end the year with style and confidence!

What to wear:
When you dress for New Years Eve you want to wear something that POPS! Maybe something with sparkle or cute high heels.

Wear a poufy mini dress that has some sparkle or maybe is a fun color.
  • When wearing a fun item of clothing, try to tone down the accesories so that the dress gets all attention. Possibly just neutral high heels, and some shiny bracelts
Wear a simple black dress, but play up the accesories!
  • Be sure to pick a dress that flatters you!
  • Add a chunky statement necklace, fun high heels and fun hair accesories
Wear a simple one color shirt, and a poufy and fun skirt!
  • This is one of my favorites and what I will be wearing on New Years Eve: A black v-neck shirt and a *petticoat skirt with jeggins underneath. This is such a unique look you a guranteed to be a show stopper. Layer many different pearl necklaces, and wear fun colorful shoes.
  • *Petticoat skirt could be substituted with a tutu or dazziling skirt!
  • Or: A pinky or red shirt with a fun skirt. The skirt could be poufy or shiny or plain. Add black and white shoes and a colorful statement necklace.
Wear a snazzy shirt and your favorite pair of jeans!
  • Wear a nice shirt, maybe something with sparkle or even floral! Wear so shiny bracelets and colorful high heels. The high heels will make you legs look long and lean in the jeans.
Hair do's and don'ts
Do
  • Add some sparkle: Spray some sparkley hair spray  or braid your hair with a sparkley ribbon or tinsel.
  • Twist hair into a high bun and add and oversized bow.
  • Curl or crimp your hair: Add a fancy or/and fun hair accessory
-Recommended to brush out the curls or crimps for extra volume
Don't
  • Leave your hair down and flat: Use some volumizing hair products or do something special
  • Not put some accessories or sparkle in your hair: Even if you leave it down put in an oversized bow, or a big flower or a sparkley accessory (can you tell I love sparkles?)

However you end the year, end it with a bang! Dance with confidence, laugh with meriness, smile with ease ( and hopefully with beautiful red lipstick because it is such a classic look), and have fun in style!
Overall just have fun and do something new! I hope you have a wonderful and sparkley New Year Eve!
