January: Spotlight-Josef Rodriguez

I have decided that every month (it may turn into twice a month) I will showcase some fashionistas and fashionistos of my community! This month the spotlight is on Josef Rodriguez.
Joey is an eigth grader at Arizona School for the Performing Arts. He is a guitarist in an aspiring indie/rock band called No Name and he is a fantastic trombone player. He is also very stylish and I asked him to create a look for me to showcase on the blog for this month, and he was extremely happy to share his style with you guys!
     Here's his look:

Joey calls his look: Intellectual Surfer Punk. I really love how this look feels relaxed (the loose shirt, jeans, beany) ,but at the same time fancy enough for school or going around town. Thanks for the look, Joey!

January: School Look

Hello readers! :) Lately people have been saying that I dress fancy everyday, which is true for most of the week, and have asked me to show a comfortable and casual school look on the blog. So here is what I see as being a cute and casual for school:

What to wear: I would wear solid colored jacket with a fun shirt underneath it. For instance, I have paired together a red corduroy jacket and a floral thermal. Not only will you stay warm, but your outfit will be noticed because of the bright solid jacket and the interesting shirt underneath it. For the bottoms I would suggest comfortable jeans. Depending on what color the shirts are, the jeans can be a dark or light wash :For instance: A bright shirt would stand out with darker jeans, but a darker and warmer shirt would stand out against light jeans. For shoes I would say cute and short high heels :) , but you could also wear comfortable slip-ons like TOMS.

Hair: I would put my hair up in a messy bun on the top of my head. This says, "I just woke up, but still look awesome."
TIP: Put the bun on the side of you head for a funky style!

Make-up: For school I always like to go neutral, but with a little pop of color in the eyes. So I would do glossy lips, a silvery-gray lid, and a fun and rich color lining the bottom of the lid. Purple's look good with blue and green eyes, pink's look good with brown eyes, but honestly you could do any color and still rock it.
Here's how my look turned out :

January: the pencil skirt.

At a recent trip to good ol' Goodwill, I stumbled upon a 3 dollar bright pink pencil skirt. I was instantly in love.

How to wear it:

Shirt:When wearing a bright article of clothing, you have to balance out the other colors of your outfit. So I chose to pair this skirt with a fun, but not to bright leopard print shirt. It also helped that the shirt was a little roomie and flowy because it was a contrast to the tightness of the skirt.

Accessories: I piled on the pearls, a showy gold necklae, and a statement turquoise beaded necklace. For shoes I wore red pumps. In my rule book, it is okay to wear a bright skirt and bright shoes becaue my legs are so long, but if you aren't comfortable with so much color just switch out bright shoes with black or white shoes (I would wear my saddle Oxfords :P).

Hair: Slight curls/waves look glamourous without up-staging the outfit. Brush them out for sweet volume!

Make-up: With an outfit so bold and bright, the make-up should be a little less dramatic. I lined the bottom lashes with some light gray shadow and did the lids in a soft pink. Next, I added a lot of black mascara for that Hollywood-vintage-glam. Then, I brushed some light pinky-rosy blush along my cheek bones. Also, I kept the lips neutral, but added some shiny gloss.

Here's how it turned out!

If you have questions, or other ideas of how to rock the pencil skirt, please leave a comment!
